Established in the year 1996, the Department of Computer Science and Applications has emerged as a pioneer in imparting Higher Education on Computer Science among the rural students in this part of the country. The Department has highly qualified faculty members with rich experience in teaching and research. The Department offers two Master’s programmes namely, M.C.A. and M.Sc.-IT that lead to rewarding careers opportunities. The department also offers Ph.D. Programme since 2000 and M.Phil. Programme from 2015. Presently, 28 scholars are pursuing their doctoral degrees and 12 scholars have been awarded so far. The thrust areas of research are Digital Image Processing, Medical Image Segmentation & Analysis, Parallel Computing, Object Recognition, MANET, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Network Security, Information Security and Bigdata Analytics. The Department also offers Courses on Computer Science for all UG & PG programmes. The Faculty of the Department handle funded research projects by UGC, ICMR and DST and presently seven funded projects to the tune of more than Rs. 2 Crores have been carried out. In recognition of its research credentials, the Department has received funds under UGC-Special Assistance Programme (Rs.41 Lakhs) and DST-FIST Level-I (Rs.45 Lakhs). To disseminate the knowledge on Computer Science & Information Technology, the Department has successfully organized Four National Conferences and a Refresher Course. As part of its Extension activities, the Department promotes Computer Literacy and Education among the rural school teachers and students. It is also involved in devising and developing expert systems for rural development. To cap it all, the Department has been sanctioned Rs.1.25 Crores under UGC Indo-US Knowledge Initiative Award 2015.
